The Positives of Working from Home

 Picture
At the time of this outing and initial post, the past 7 weeks had been an emotional time for me and although I try to be strong the cracks had started to show. However I am a doer and we get one life and I want to make the most of mine as a strong and happy woman and Mum. So when troubled times happen in your life and you need to survive it can make you feel like change is needed. The beginning of this particular self discovery journey began with the start of a yoga pregnancy class with my sister at Fit For Birth with Karen. I was feeling tired and couldn’t be bothered but still went. After the class I felt amazing and energised. Karen had books to borrow one of my favourites was spotted ‘You Sexy Mother’ and beckoned me to borrow it. I read the whole book in a week and I am now doing the 10 day turn around plan. You can read all you like but you have to implement ideas and change, to move forward in your journey. I will share my turnaround plan in separate blogs.

So this particular Work From Home day begun with an early visit with my 2 girls to the school dental van. Then off to school and Kindy. I had already decided last night that I would not come straight home and work like I usually do but instead treat myself to a walk plus coffee and cake first! (30 weeks pregnant)!
There was the huge temptation to change my mind and just get everything done! Crazy! I stayed strong for me, and went for a walk.

I am so lucky to also live in paradise! My rather large baby bump was struggling to make it up the hill but bit by bit we travelled on, looking for the reward. Very much like any goal in our life big or small.

The reward was the amazing feeling and view at the top of the lookout. Just magic.

Then came my reward, just for me! I grabbed a coffee and cake from one of my favourite Cafes 10 Hastings st and went to the beach to saviour every morsel and began writing my blog in my beach office today. What a refreshing way to start the day, look after yourself, feel energised and once again become productive.

Then it was time to get back home and into the rest of my tasks.
My business involves, product making, marketing and selling for Noosa Melting Moments. Computer personal assistant job for The Chartist and networking business with Handmade In Noosa. I love it all. It uses my creativity, skills and passions, but best of all I can work from home, the beach a cafe. Have a morning off and do it at night. I can fund my coffee and cake habit! Oh and my new car! I can attend my girls events and play dates. I can spend precious time with my daughter on her non Kindy days and now I get to have another baby to cherish my love on and show that life is about balance, trial and error, failures and successes.

Wake up Call

The last week has been a big wake up call and reality check for me as a person, Mum and Business Owner. It all began with getting sick which I continued to try and power through but progressively got worse. Plus being 31 weeks pregnant didn’t help either. So eventually my body said enough is enough and I have had to rest as I was incapable of doing anything but this. So at times like this I moved through different emotions from frustration, ( a lot of frustration!), sadness, sleep to the realisation to how good my life is when I’m well and have and can do all the things I do. I realised how much I actually do achieve even though we tell ourselves there is not enough time in the day. I also realised I need to be more adaptable to change in routine and plans and allow more breathing space in my weekly planner. As Mums our job never ends and we need to be able to still operate with love, kindness and patience. This goes back to our life balance and keeping it in sync the best we can. So next time the negative talk starts in your head turn it around to all the positives, probably the things you would say to others if they confided all their troubles and concerns to you. Today I am going to be thankful for being home with my Miss 5 with very little on our agenda except playing and resting. Tomorrow I look forward to feeling a bit better and brighter and achieve something small.

Candle Care

Who loves that feeling when visitors come over and say how beautiful your house smells? I know I do. I also feel very proud that I made them and my home is inviting. We can often as Mum’s feel like we can’t spend too much money on a luxury item for ourselves! However, often if you outlay more initially you will save in the long term. This is true for good quality Soy Wax Candles versus cheap Paraffin Wax Candles. Soy Wax Candles will burn for a longer time and give off a stronger scent throw, better for the environment and your health.

Ok, so  you have made the choice to buy a gorgeous good quality Soy Wax Candle. So now how do you take good care of it and make it last without wasting a drop of soy wax and fragrance. The answer is easy once you know how, remember to teach your loved ones in your household too.

Here are some great tips to achieve this:

  1. Position candle in a visible position out of drafts and away from children and pets.
  2. Once candle is lit, burn the top layer of soy wax from the wick to the outer edge of the glass candle jar. Sometimes depending on the circumference of the candle container, it can take up to 3 hours the first time so make sure you allow enough time.
  3. Extinguish candle by using a candle snuffer instead of blowing out the candle to reduce putting smoke in the room.
  4. Before burning candle the next time, trim black curled over part of wick with sharp scissors and then relight the nice straight wick.
  5. Do not leave candle in hot car or in hot sun as it may cause it to melt.
  6. You can leave the lid off even while not burning to enjoy subtle scent in the room.
  7. If not using for a long time, place lid back on so that dust does not accumulate on it.
  8. Take your candle with you on holidays to create your own space and enjoy a familiar scent.

So now you have all these great tips, sit back relax in your favourite way, light your candle and enjoy your beautifully scented home.

Mindfullness

Mindfulness seems to be in trend and a bit of a focus of late. The concept seemed untouchable to me in the beginning. So I did an app search to help me in my self discovery, as one does in this technology based world. I was pleasantly surprised and grateful when I discovered an app called Headspace. I started off with the free 10 days and enjoyed the quiet time for 10 minutes a day however I was amazed how often I drifted off and lost focus. Staying in the moment was clearly not a strong quality of mine and one I felt like I needed to work on. I speak from being a mum with an 8 year old, almost 5 year old and a baby on the way. So I am thinking how is this possible when you always have to be on the ball and one step forward to be on top of everything. Or do I? I suppose that is the question of my new discovery. So for the first time I decided to pay money for a yearly subscription to an app and further my journey with Headspace. I figured an investment in myself could be the best for my self personally, my family and my business. I am up to day 27 and getting better at focusing and trying to be in the present moment. Being in the present moment is enjoyable, time doesn’t seem to go as fast, better connections with others made and clearer thoughts. So I encourage you to give it a go in a style that suits you.

Perhaps as your driving in the car think about the process not the destination. I did this yesterday in my new car, as I needed to get use to everything. I enjoyed the drive. Miss almost 5 enjoyed the drive looking around. We were both calm, completed tasks on our journey and arrived in plenty of time without being in a rush. A big contrast from some other car trips etched in my memory.

It can be finding a peaceful spot at home, light a soy wax candle or your oil burner with your favourite soy wax melt. Choose a scent that makes you happy and calm, one that provides good memories.
So give it a go and I would love to hear your experiences, add them in the comments section. They might be about your struggles or your successes.
